IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
At the March meeting, the Horatio School Board voted to approve a 4 Day calendar for 2024-2025.This decision came after careful consideration and deliberation, taking into account research paired with survey results from students, parents/guardians, and staff.
The motivation for transitioning to a 4-Day week includes:
Improve teaching and learning with longer lesson cycles per class session
Incentivize attendance for both staff and students/reduce dropout rate
Retain and recruit the best and brightest staff- particularly in critical shortage areas such as upper-level math and science
Possible financial savings for our district after a decline in student enrollment after COVID
(Savings on substitute costs, fuel costs, utilities, wear and tear on buses, etc…)Day off will allow students and staff time to attend appointments, increase
family time, and allow for high school students to gain employmentProfessional development can be held on days off
Classes will meet Tuesday through Friday, but several optional Mondays (WIN Days on calendar) are scheduled throughout the year for tutoring, enrichment, and other student activities. More details to come as plans are finalized.
